Dheeraj is an educator not just by profession, but also by passion. A graduate of IIT Kanpur and University of Maryland, College Park, he has been a faculty member at IIT Kanpur since 1993. Apart from teaching , he has held administrative positions as Dean of Academic Affairs and Chairman of Senate Undergraduate Committee among others. He was the director of LNM Institute of Information Technology, Jaipur from 2008-2010 and continues to be a member of the governing council there. He is also associated in teaching, administrative or advisory roles with IIT Gandhinagar, IIIT Delhi , School of IT, Ahmedabad University, School Board of Computer and Information Sciences, University of Hyderabad, Central University of Rajasthan and IITRAM, Ahmedabad. He regularly writes and speaks about issues of higher technical education.
His other passion, apart from education, is the Indian Railways. He is one of the founding members of the Indian Railways Fan Club (IRFCA). He stays in Kanpur with his wife Rashmi, daughter Surabhi and son Udit.
